1 down 4 more to go!

This morning I finished one of my four WIP. Yeah me! I still have to bind it, but that takes no time. The pattern is from one of my favorite bloggers psiquilt, Rachel Griffith. The pattern is called Pinwheel sampler and can be found HERE. I  just love, love, love how it turned out. I want to do another one in browns and mauve and cranberry colors.

I did an all over wandering stitch on my Bernina 530. This is the first quilt that I have top stitched on my Bernina (its only about 2 months new!) I really enjoyed stippling. Although, I have to learn to relax my arms and shoulders. And I know I make some funny faces (my 11 year old said I did!) as I move the quilt around. I think that next time I will do my stipple a little wider and not so close.

On my next quilt I want to try a swirly circle pattern that I saw here on Rachel's flicker page here. I also want to do some random line top stitching too. There are just so many ways to finish a quilt. I find that it is overwhelming, trying to pick the perfect top stitch pattern for the quilt. I also get that way when picking fabric and finding the right pattern that will compliment the patter, and vis versa. Do you ever have this problem?

Bloggers Choice Bundle

As I'm sure you've seen all over the bloggers internet, Quokka Quilts is hosting a giveaway sponsored by the Fat Quarter Shop to create a Blogger's Choice Bundle.  WOW....The winners {there will be three!} will receive a half yard of each of the fabrics they choose for their bundles. WOW again!! Who could pass this up? Not me!! So while my kids and husband were at basketball practice, I spent some time picking out my bundle. I am pretty please with what I picked out. I did find it a little hard to find fabrics that go well together this way, as I'm a very hands on person. But over all I'm happy.

Here are the links to the fabrics I chose...

2. flora tangerine paisley flower

I will not start a new quilt, I will not start a new quilt...

I have a little confession....I am becoming a fabric hoarder! This is just some of my stash.

I have about 25-30 fat quarters that I have collected for various quilts, and I have more fabric that I have ordered online, that is en route! I have even joined Rachel's quilt along. But I have to tell myself that before I start a new project I have to get all of these..

finished first.  Some of these just need bindings, one is half stippled, and two of these only have the top done. But it's so hard to finish up my almost done quilts, when I have all that beautiful fabric waiting to be created into something new! Do you have this problem? Do you give in, or are you good about finishing up what you are working on? I'm going to do my best to finish these quilts first before I start ANY new ones!  I hope...stay tuned to see if I do

Sophie's quilt

Here is a picture of the quilt that I made for my niece, Sophia. She had seen some pictures of my quilts, that I posted on facebook, and said to here mom that she wanted one. So I asked her mother what her favorite colors are. I got a bunch of 1/2 yard prints and a solid green. Cut them up into charm sized blocks, 5x5's, and sewed them together.

I did an all over meandering loops. But on some of the plain green blocks I did words and pictures. This one has a freehand flower...my first time doing this mind you.

On this block I "wrote" her name. I wrote the words out first with my disappearing pen then sewed over it.Here we have the word "family". I also wrote; love, silly, laugh, joy, and then did some blocks with hearts in them. This was so fun to do. I have now decided that any quilt I make I am going to stitch a word somewhere on the quilt. This will be my little signature. Do you do anything like that on your quilts? And here is Sophie so surprised and excited about her quilt. She is pointing to the label on the back that says "made for you by Kerri Horne". She thought that was pretty cool that I have my own label!!

Blue and Brown Stars

Here is a quilt that I made for my sister in law for her 40th birthday. This was a challenge for me, since I am new to quilting. I think it
came out pretty good, if I do say so myself!!

I created the backing by my self. The middle star points are different fabrics used on the front of the quilt.

For my little niece to be

I made this quilt for my baby sister, who is pregnant with her first child. My sister, like our mother, is an amazing quilter! I knew that she would probably make her own quilt for baby girl (she is not telling us her name till she is born, so I call her Kerri Diane,my name!) but I wanted to give little "Kerri" something from her favorite Aunt!

This was another pattern that I got from Moda Bake Shop, called  "Its A Hoot Baby Quilt". I love, love, love the colors, prints, and how it all turned out! My sister was so pleased with it and gave me the best compliment ever..." I like it better than the one I made for her."

My second quilt

This was a lap quilt that I made for my mother-in-law. I am very pleased with how it turned out! I used the patter (to be inserted here). It was a very quick and easy pattern to do for a wanna be quilter. I was making this quilt at the same time as the one for my mother, this was much easier, so no mistakes here!
What makes me most proud of the quilt is the fact that I used my mothers longarm quilting machine to top stitch it!! I spent over 9 hours, of a beautiful weekend, standing and bending and sewing. But I am very happy with the over all look. I don't know if you can see the pattern that I chose? It is of a repeating leaf. It was a pretty easy and forgiving pattern to use, since this was my first time doing it.
